In 2002, Imerys took over the kiln furniture business of The Siam Refractory Industry Company, founded in 1982. The plant is located in Ta Luang, a small village in Saraburi province, the largest centre of ceramic industry in Thailand.    

Dry-pressing is the main shaping technology. While dry-pressing is a widespread technology, the IKF plant in Thailand is the only cordierite producer in the world using a spray-dried granulate. Apart from giving a perfectly mixed body, spray-drying also provides a high fluidity of the granulate and a high unequaled performance in high temperature.

Most products from IKF Thailand are used for firing tableware and decoration ceramics. Batts/supports systems, roller kiln batts, plate saggars for porcelain glost firing, profile setters for bone china biscuit firing and cranks for decoration firings belong to the wide range of kiln furniture products which characterize this industry. Many of these products are customer specific and its design and performance have quite an impact on the quality of the products for which they are made.

Apart from the tableware market, cordietite-mulite kiln furniture products for sanitaryware, tiles, roof tiles and technical ceramics are produced in this plant.
